The DBS Story

The journey began on November 8, 1985, when Dr. Bipin Gupta landed at San Francisco airport to begin his postdoctoral training at Stanford Medical School with five dollars in his pocket. After finishing his fellowship, he worked for various biotech companies in the San Francisco Bay Area developing a number of breakthrough products for the IHC market, including the first highly sensitive detection system and ER/PR staining kit. In 1994, he founded Diagnostic BioSystems, Inc. (DBS) with $5000.00 in seed money on the eastern edge of the Silicon Valley, home to a myriad of high technology success stories. As the operation grew, DBS relocated to Pleasanton where they currently reside.

The success of DBS is defined by four key principles: straightforward business practices, financial conservatism, a high ethical standard and, most of all, passion. This passion has led to a remarkable run of over 10 years consistent double-digit, year-over-year growth, resulting in a financially stable privately held company. DBS currently engages over 60 worldwide distributors selling their complete line of IHC antibody stains and kits. In 2008, DBS secured cGMP certification for direct sales of IVD labeled products in the United States. Distributors are rigorously appraised and are not brought on-board until DBS is assured of consistent product delivery. In fact, with a catalog featuring more than 1200 products, DBS typically operates with a backorder rate of less than one percent—virtually unheard of in this industry!

Fostering Dr. Gupta's passion for a traditional commitment to customer service, DBS is proud to live by the standard he has set and the words that he lives by, “When you call, we answer the phone—not an answering machine.” Our mantra is: “We love our customers. We only exist because of our customers.”
